E-safety

We take safety online very seriously. Students receive a practical set of lessons provided by the Computing department and also participate in bespoke assemblies throughout their time at school.

Our advice to parents is always try to monitor your child's/children's online activity. Please feel free to contact the school for further advice and guidance

Safe use of ICT and Mobile Phones

Although the use of mobile phones is not permitted on the school site, the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices such as computers, tablets and game devices is commonplace. However, as a society, we are beginning to recognise that although these devices have brought great benefit, we also need to ensure that we help children to understand the dangers and how to keep themselves safe.

This includes:

  • Keeping personal details secure;
  • Understanding that not all content is appropriate, truthful or legal;
  • What to do if they accidentally access inappropriate or illegal content;
  • What to do if they are upset by something they receive;
  • What to do if they are physically going to meet someone they have met online.

Through our PSHE activities, including Computing lessons, we teach students to keep their contact details (address and phone numbers) private and security settings on social media high; to understand that not everyone they 'meet' on social media is real or honest; that if they publish pictures or videos on the internet, anyone can change or share them; to report abuse; to block unknown contacts. We use or encourage access to resources from CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) and www.thinkuknow.co.uk
