Transition to Belvidere

Moving from primary to secondary school is a big step for students and their families. At Belvidere School, we aim to make this change smooth and enjoyable. Our transition programme helps students start Year 7 feeling excited and confident, not worried. During Years 5 and 6, we offer a range of fun activities so that by the time students join us, they already know the school, staff and some of their new classmates.

In Year 6, students and their parents/carers are invited to our October Open Evening. Families can tour the school, try activities in different departments, and even taste food from our dining hall. Later in the year, an Assistant Headteacher or Head of Year 7 visits each primary school to talk to students and answer questions. Our pastoral and SEND teams also gather information from primary schools so we understand each child’s needs.

Students then spend two full days at Belvidere in the summer term, taking part in taster lessons and getting used to the school. We also hold transition evenings in July, where families can meet key staff.

On the first day of Year 7, students arrive before the other year groups. They spend time with their form tutor, tour the school again, and receive all the information they need. In the first week, they also take part in a team-building activity on the school field to help them make friends and meet our Student Leaders.

We send all new students a 'Department Handbook' to show what each subject involves. The 2024–25 version is available at the bottom of this page.

Our aim is to make the move to secondary school as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We will keep families updated through meetings and information booklets. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
